When I tell people I recommend porcelain tiles for almost every room, they often look disappointed. Porcelain is not trendy. It does not have the warmth of wood or the industrial edge of microcement. But after living in Dubai for 12 years and renovating four properties, I have learned that boring often means reliable. And reliable is what you need when summer temperatures hit 50°C. The Science of Why Porcelain Works in Dubai Porcelain tiles are fired at extremely high temperatures, which makes them dense and nearly waterproof. The water absorption rate of good porcelain is less than 0.5%. Compare that to ceramic tiles which can absorb 3-5% or natural stone which can absorb even more. In a climate where humidity is high and spills happen, low absorption means no swelling, no stains, and no mold. I tested this myself.
